I have a 3com office connect dual speed hub 8 port.
It has a button that says uplink or normal.
I have RR cable, both comps have xp pro both are workgroup domain. How do I configure this? One will have internet access but the other won't?
I have the network cable from the modem going to the 8th port on the hub, then my comps plugged in to any of the other ports. If I push the button in(uplink on) then on comp will get internet connection and the other won't? If I leave it as is, depress the button (normal mode) I won't get internet connection on either comp? Also the modem won't have the PC detetction light lit?

    Any help? Thanks,!!

you can't share internet straight threw a hub you have to have a router first

it should of worked with a hub.. I use to have my DSL set that way & I set up a customer with cable. Plug the modem in the the uplink and the PCs in the other ports.. and they should of got IPs from the modem. Cable modems around my area are limited to 2 IPs... maybe yours is limited to one? Check the ip & subnet.. but if you got a router running I guess why bother.
