How do I slow down audio CD when copying?

I would like to slow the rate of playback when I copy a music CD mix. Right now the songs sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I would like the rate to be at about 70% and the pitch to be lower so I can understand the words. On my Windows Vista computer I have the following programs installed -- I'm not sure which to use or what to do: Windows Media Player, VirtualDubMod, Bink & Smacker, Roxio, and Windows DVD Maker. I also have a DVD burner on my home computer, where I have Nero installed. Please walk me through each step on how to slow down this CD. Thank you!

It might be possible to do this in one of the programs you already have, but I doubt it. You could look in the Help files of each of these programs and see if they can do this.
There are several programs available that can do this, however I don't know of any freeware ones that do.
If you only have the one CD to slow down, you can download a trial copy of Mixcraft (the program I use for modifying sound properties)

This trial is fully functional for (I think) 10 days and I can walk you through the process of using it.
It will allow you to change your modified music either to an MP3 file or you can burn it directly to a CD.

I have found that when burning CD audio, if you use a lower burn speed (16x or less) the music will come out MUCH better. Yeah, it takes longer, but what's 5 or 8 minutes? Especially if the end product is worthless anyway? I have burned MANY audio CDs using Nero, Burrrrrn, and Window Media Player, and they have all come out perfect.

Yes, thank you, I will try that, but do you have a suggestion on how to purposefully slow down the actual playback rate of the music? I want it to have a slower rhythm, lower pitch, etc.

Okay, I will download the trial program you suggested. Can you write down the steps one by one on how to slow down the music?

    Step 1:
    Add your sound file

    Step 2:
At the bottom of the Mixcraft window click on the tab labeled "Sound"

    Step 3:
Use the pull down to stretch the time taken for the file.

    Step 4:
Adjust pitch to a negative number (I'm guessing how much you'll need to slow and lower the sound)

Test the sounds by clicking the "play button"

After you have the sound right
    Step 5:
Use the "File" pull down and select "Save As" (the save icon on the toolabr will save the project, not the sound file)

    Step 5:
Save the file as a MP3 (or wma or wav - your preference)

    Step 6:
    Enjoy the file.

    Hope this helps.

    :)
