    that didn't help.
    Only the root folder opens now

    According to the thread you worked from, autoplay ought still to be working, only autorun being disabled. Anyway, if autoplay isn't working either, and if this was done some time ago so you cannot do a system restore, then you will have to run regedit from the Start > Run box and follow that post to delete each of the keys that was added. You should take a system restore point first.

    Hi,

    Sorry for the delay..

    I have tried to alter the registry back to its 'original' state.
    The problem seems however that some values of Chaslangs edit were changes and not additions.
    So deleting them appears to be quite risking.
    The original values I don't know.

    I have tried system restore.
    It was only a couple of days ago that I made the change but the only result was a damaged Internet security database.
    Autoplay was stil not available, not automatically and not in the dvd 'right click' menu so it rolled it back.

    I found some other useful procedures on microsofts website but with no result as well.

    depending on your OS, if you post the keys needed to be known, someone can post what values they have... would this help any?

    I've just been having a look at that possibility (still assuming XP - pls confirm), but it doesn't look straightforward at all. However as long as you have taken a restore point there isn't much risk in trying things.

    Well, thats an idea.

    I'll give you the chaslangs changes:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\Autorun.inf]
    @="@SYS:DoesNotExist"

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HonorAutorunSetting"=dword:00000001
    "NoDriveAutoRun"=dword:03ffffff
    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000ff

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HonorAutorunSetting"=dword:00000001
    "NoDriveAutoRun"=dword:03ffffff
    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000ff

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
    "AutoRun"=dword:00000001

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\active setup\installed components\{23KLN5J0-4OPM-11WE-AAX5-24EF1F387232}]

    I hope this will do.

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\Autorun.inf]
    @="@SYS:DoesNotExist"

    Not present ^ from IniFileMapping on is not shown ; )

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2]

    I believe this removes any entry, iirc.
    string entry = REG_SZ found, value = not set, status shows 'default'

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HonorAutorunSetting"=dword:00000001

    same value ^

    "NoDriveAutoRun"=dword:03ffffff

    not found ^

    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000ff

    not found ^

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "HonorAutorunSetting"=dword:00000001

    not found ^

    "NoDriveAutoRun"=dword:03ffffff

    not found ^

    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000ff

    found = hex value = 91 = decimal value = 145 ^

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom]
    "AutoRun"=dword:00000001

    same value found on this unit ^

    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\active setup\installed components\

    believe the subkey {23KLN5J0-4OPM-11WE-AAX5-24EF1F387232} is going to be unique to your unit only
    also, i believe the - removes any entry or key shown at the end of the string

    doesn't look to be as much help as I had hoped, i will compare on a new machine and repost.

    Thanks,

    I changed the values but it didn't change anything unfortunately.

    Isn't there a possibility to reset the register values for the xp-part to their absolute basics?

    You would have to reinstall XP or use your recovery disk, whichever you have, to do that, which wipes everything else you have installed/saved too.

    It really isn't safe to mess around with system settings without having an Acronis style system backup available in case, as here, things go wrong. Sorry.

    Just a thought, now you have reversed what you did, it might be worth trying the Microsoft fix once more. Fingers crossed ;)

    Just found this:
    From here

    Also some info on the last string the worm affects:

    Since you have made further change I'm not sure this will help. Worst case run chaslangs regedit again and undo. The other issue I see is, chaslang highlighted REGEDIT this has "Windows registry Code". So before moving forward wait for more people to respond. Earthling for one :)

    I would have run this through, unfortunately I'm on Win7

    Cheers.
