Well alright, I have 6 gigs of ram, but I running in a windows vista home premium 32 bit system so I can only run 3 gigs. I was told I could upgrade to a 64 bit for only 10-25 dollars if I went to windows anytime upgrade (or something like that). I could not find anything to do with a upgrade so I was wondering if you guys knew what to do. also my computers a year old so I'm sure I can run a 64 bit, I would still like to run a compatibility test to make sure, where or how would I do that? Your input is greatly appreciated.

    Hi

Sadly there is no upgrade route to go from 32bit to 64bit, to use 64bit Windows you will need to perform a clean install. Some info for you HERE

The Anytime upgrade is to go from Home Premum to Ultimate version etc, but its likely what you where told is that if you have a retail version of 32bit Vista, then you can order the 64bit DVD for that sort of price, it will however null and void your 32bit licence, as you can only run one version of Vista with your licence. Bottom of this page HERE is where you can order the 64bit version of Vista Home Premium (its a likel for like thing so you cannot go from Home Premium to Ultimate, unless you buy the Anytime upgrade first, which is costly route)

As for your computer then was it a custom build or bought from th likes of HP, Dell etc?

If Custom build then whats the motherboard make and model?

If from the likes of Dell, HP, then whats the make and model?

Info above needed as it will determine if that PC has 64bit support and more so 64bit drivers, if the manufacturer has 64bit drivers for your hardware then odds are on you being able to run 64bit Vista ok, a year old PC is likely to have a 64bit capable CPU installed, but give us the info above to help us work out what you have hardware wise, also the below guide for an Everest log will help.

Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor but off hand it doesnt if memory serves tells you that you can run 64bit versions, this is more a 32bit guide, and I cannot test it as I run 64bit Vista and the advisor doesnt install on 64bit.

I will be upgrading my card to a Diamond Radeon HD 4870 Video Card:-D - with 1GB GDDR5, PCI Express 2.0 x16, CrossFireX Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, HDMI Support, VGA Support, etc.
all of that checked out. i will be upgrading my power supply to maybe 600W cause i want a gaming computer:major. i would just like to free up the extra 3 gigs of ram and have my computer preform a little faster.im not looking for ultimate 64 just home P 64 bit but i could not find it. the version of vista i have now came with my computer pre-installed with the CD key on the side, and what i was told by the guy was i could download the 64 bit key if i payed 10-25 dollars and im fine with that. i would also be fine with re-installing the operating system to get at 64 bits and losing my 32 bit version.(is that what you call a clean install?:confused). i followed you link to get to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/compare-editions/64-bit.aspx to upgrade to 64 saying there was no deal for upgrade. IF possible i would like to get Home Premiums 64 bit (which i could not find on Microsoft website but i have seen it with other web browsed resources) without breaking the bank.:cry

I was also told the the installation disk for vista that came with my computer had both home premium 32 AND 64 and that if i wanted 64 i had to reinstall my operating system and and select 64 bit when prompted. does that sound right to you?
