How do I upgrade Win98 to Win98 SE?

Hi all,

I have an older laptop with Win98, I used Windows update, however, I don't think it updated to the equivelent of SE. Is there a way to do this? I came across an update called the Unofficial Win98 SE Service Pack. Will that do it?

Any help will be appreciated.

No, the pack you reference is all the Windows updates to 98SE, so you need 98SE first. Windows 98 and 98SE are two seperate releases last I knew. Frankly, I am not a fan of operating system upgrades, it never tends to work well. 98 to 98SE might not be too bad, but I dont do it on any other operating system upgrades, I format and clean install.

Welcome to MG. Beware it becomes addictive, great spot to meet fellow geeks, though.
If you go Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->System--General tab it should show what version of W98 you have installed. My W98SE shows version 4.10.2222A. What does yours show? Google search on "W98 to W98SE", below gives plenty of links.

I would try ebay and get a complete W98SE OS. Make sure it is complete and comes with product key, etc. Agree with MA that a clean install is best. Remember you will have to back up all your precious stuff first. Make sure you have all your original diskettes/CD's that came with W98. You might have to use those drivers again, first, until you get W98SE running, and then update drivers.

afriend of mine gave me quite afew copys of w98se with there keys (they are legit copys) if you want one just pm me and i will give you one only thing i ask for is shipping and maybe afew dollors as they are just collecting dust
