    Hmmm, what OS....

if XP, set the BIOS to boot from CD, then boot from the XP CD and use the format utility built into the install.....

    or...

Partition Magic will set you up...but it is not free software (but I swear by it!)

More details on what is going on would help...

You can't even boot to the boot floppy??

What do you mean "an fdisk go bad"??

You mean that what you did in fdisk didn't work?

What do you mean by "assign" a partition??

Do you want to create one, destroy one, or make one Active? FDISK does those things.

If you need some brushing up on step-by step use of FDISK, you might benefit from spending a few minutes reading the FDISK instructions for another member in THIS THREAD. Scroll way down until you see the verrry long posts about FDISK.

Also, doing a search for FDISK on this forum will net you a LOT of good help.

I usually use a third party fdisk utility and I have two of them. The one that I used is Madboot 7.0 and I got messed up in the process where the disk didn't get partitioned ,I think. When I tried to boot from the boot floppy I got a message that says that I need a FAT or NTFS partition. When I try to run fdisk,I get "no fixed disk".

Robo,I worked down through this to the last :

When I typed G I got "system terminated normally". I typed q and got the A:\ prompt.

I tryed doing a boot and froze at :System has so many bits on.....no disk labeled (this not a word for word description)

Thanks Robo, could you do a little rundown on what the commands mean?

How do I run this drive as a slave on another system? I have a new system with XP home, could I run it as a slave to this system?
