Can a keylogger email or otherwise export info without an email application such as Outlook installed on the computer it is spying on? I only use free email such as Hotmail and I have uninstalled Outlook. Does this mean my home computer is safe from keyloggers?

A keylogger can email or otherwise export info without an email application such as Outlook installed on the computer it is spying on since it can have a built in e-mail or communication application. This is typical of various computer viruses that propagate in this way to mass send them themselves.

Using web based e-mail or uninstalling e-mail clients does not mean that your home computer is safe from keyloggers.

Thanks Maxwell. I was afraid that might be the case.

A keylogger is a program that will discretly install on your system and monitor your keystrokes. Once info is attained it will send outgoing "packets", it doesn't need your email to send info.

You can source keylogger scanners and install one of these.

Thanks for the suggestions. Spy Sweeper has found traces of four keyloggers on my computer in the last couple months but I suspect they are false positives. All of the keyloggers it has found are commercial products and I think it should have found more than just one or two traces if they were really on my computer. Anyway, I thank I'll try Blacklight for fun. Thanks again.

Just because they are commercial products does not give them any credibility!!!!! There are many very deceptive and deceitful programs (and people behind the programs out there) out there.

    What were these programs?
You need to understand the functions of these programs and whether they should be monitoring your keystrokes!?!

I have only one I use that does such a thing because it is supposed to and my keylogger scanner (Pest Patrol) warned me straight away; Screen Recorder Pro.

Check your logs from Spysweeper (good application) and identify the threats and post them here and in a security forum!!!!

Here is a link for one of the best security analysis sites, has links to deceptive (rouge programs):

Dont trust no-one and unless the program is supposed to monitor your keystrokes seriously consider removing it!
