How do you compare clock speed with a different number of cores?

So if a program says that it recommends a 3ghz processor (if it is single core) then what speed of a dual core processor would match this? Quad core? I don't know if there's really an easy way to compare this but if anyone knows that would be great.

Any multicore will beat a single all the time so don't worry so much about speed. If you want to compare then google up some reviews as the good hardware sites usually have a comparison chart. What's your CPU? i MAY BE ABLE TO HELP.

It's an intel core 2 quad (I think, not on that computer currently) running at 2.16ghz.

The lowest speed that any Intel quad has is the Q6600 @ 2.6 GHz, was that a typo of yours?:confused

Anyways, no one sells those anymore except on eBay etc. It's a good CPU as I abused mine for over 3 years.:-D

Ya sorry 2.6, so I take it that the 2.6 quad core beats a 3ghz single core easy?
