How do you Install COSMOS??

I wouldn't suggest doing so. There's a UI designed by blizz for the game. However, I recently downloaded Cosmos, and it not only slowed down game play, but it caused software issues with my computer.

 

The UI by Blizzard is mediocre at best. And Cosmos has not slowed down any of my play on a not so new computer. There is nothing about Cosmos that causes issues with other software.

 

Im considering taking off cosmos once the new patch is out (if i last that long). In a whole long thread scandal it seems that ogaming was bought for tons of money by IGE ; which now means thottbot.com/cosmos/wowcensus.com/ogaming.com/ and a couple of other webpages all fall under IGE.

 

not sure what it means for now; tryed to find the post for you but its the 3rd time it got shot down by admins on the general boards; I knew i shoulda saved a copy on it but it was 3am and i was young and stuff hapn'd!

 

Cosmos has been repeatedly states that it is a LEGAL add-on and only changes the user interface, therefore it is not a hack and CAN be used. read the WoW forums and look for the posts from the blues on this very topic.

 

Cosmos is not an issue with Blizzard (so far).

Anyway, the next patch will be adding in some of the more important features I had been turning to mods (I actually use a different addon that I feel works better than Cosmos - search for Telos mods on the WoW forums) for so I may not feel the need for as many addons after this patch (if any at all).

The general opinion of cosmos is to install it by placing the folders in the proper addon folder but to NOT run the cosmos.exe file as that is the one that tracks everything you do in game and is NOT required to get the benefits of the addons. Many people are not aware of the fact that the cosmos.exe file is not needed to use the cosmos addons.

Don't get me wrong, cosmos is nice, but I feel there are many people making a lot better addons than cosmos. Cosmos is bloated and has many more features that most people use.

 

The gist of it is (and I really don't care much about it either) that IGE is a company that makes money selling in-game items and currency. They own thott and since cosmos feeds game data to thott, your gaming data (from using cosmos.exe) allows IGE to powerlevel their "farmers" faster and more efficiently thus making more money and camping all the good hunting spots so regular players have a harder time getting at them.

So you are helping them "ruin" the game's economy and playability by using cosmos. That is the gist of it any way. Agree with it or not, it is up to the players to decide what is best for themselves. Some won't support cosmos because of IGE, some don't give a hoot.

 

But you forget the simple fact that if Cosmos realized that they made a mistake and make a small patch to correct that, you would NEVER get it if you did not run the cosmos.exe file. There are two things cosmos.exe does, uploads your thottbot data (IF you participate) and patches the cosmos. Just remember to run wow.exe first after Blizzard updates or you will be possibly patching cosmos for fixes that you do not have yet since you did not update wow.

And when wow has a big update, its sometimes better to forgo cosmos for a few days until the bugs are worked out. Unless you are the adventurous type that doesn't mind a bug or two till they update their code.

 

I would recommend Insomniax UI instead. Cosmos got to much crap and slow the game down.
My tip is to download Insomniax UI at http://www.curse-gaming.com/mod.php?addid=297 instead and if you miss something download the addons you like.
UI packs slows the game down but if you need a pack Insomniax is a small one with extra bars that are moveable.
It is mod made for EU but I have friends that use it on US. You maybe have to download wowtoc.exe to the right patch. Just search for wowtoc on curse-gaming.com.

This maybe be unnecessary information but it's just a tip.

 

Cosmos can and does sometimes interfere with certain aspects of the game (not receiving quest rewards, etc.) Thats the risk of third party UIs.

It is a very nice interface, however.

The UI the poster was mentioning is the new UI coming out. It has the most important features of Cosmos already built in.

With that said, CT_Mod has all the useful features, and none of the garbage Cosmos has.

I've never noticed any slowdown with either. Of course, I dont use Thottbot either.

 

I like the fact that Blizzard encourages people to make GUI mods. It allows for the people to show them what they want, and Blizzard can just add it into their game. I have used many different GUI mods from beta into retail, but I think that when the new WoW GUI goes into place in the next patch, I'm going to stick with that one. I'm tired of playing the .toc game every time a patch comes out, or waiting for the mods to update thier addons.

I just want to state that I personally have never NOT received a quest reward while using Cosmos or any add-on or UI.

can be translated to - Using any non-microsoft applications and software on a microsoft operating system can cause windows to not cooperate, that is the risk of using something microsoft does not have their hands in.

 

Same here. The only addon that ever harmed my gameplay was one called "gatherer" which tracked resource spawn points to make it easier to mine or harvest herbs. Inside an instance it brought my game to a grinding halt. I figured it out by removing all the addons and then activating them one at a time. Turns out that the "gatherer" folks fixed it in the latest release, but it still goes to show you are taking a chance with these addons.

I saw the post about GM problems, and Blizzard getting overcontrolling about adding non-performance enhancing add-ons. I have a lvl 47 Warrior and and a 26 Mage and love playing the game. Amazing content and graphics and top of the line quests and dialogue. Unfortunately the server kicks half of the players about twice a night for the last week. It stays down for about a half hour or so and resets you to about 10 mins back in time before you got bumped. The main City on the the Alliance side is extremely overpopulated and causes severe lag issues. Adding RAM helped this quite a bit, but it is still a huge problem. The main area of commerce is focused into about 1/20th of the whole city where at any given time roughly 300 people are running around. My point: If you can deal with these issues and the others people have posted its an amazing game. But the moment something better comes along, see ya later blizzard.
