How do you control the way your computer starts up? I mean what program does this job and can you alter it? My friend told me her computer kept getting a virus through her start up.....

    Thanks,

if you have win98 or winxp use "msconfig." How do you get to msconfig? Well simple, Click on Start and then run and type it in. Your going to scroll to the startup tab and start to uncheck programs you don't wanna run or that virus your friend keep saying.

Tell your friend to update her virus definitons and do a full system scan.....

I personally use regcleaner 4.3 to look at the run section in the registry to whats apps are starting.

but I have been playing with this one over the last few months... Startup Inspector http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4075 gives you a good idea what each one is.

msconfig works in XP as well. In 2k, though, it's not there..

You can actually download msconfig for 2000 and install it. I forgot where I got it when I had 2K, might have actually been from Microsoft, but yes, you can install msconfig for 2000.
