Is Firefox standalone or does it run with IE? In other words can you have Firefox as a sole browser without IE on your system? :confused

    Very good answer.
I have used several other browsers and have settled with FF. It is very customizable, easy to set-up, has some good add-ons, works well with Vista, and is choice of quite a few regulars here. Oh, and as part of the set-up you can choose it as your default browser.

you can set it up to use the settings in IE, but it's its own browser for the most part.

Actually, unless something has changed recently, Maxthon and Avant are IE overlays.

    Edit, nope.

They are still overlays and use the IE engine. They advertise them as standalone browsers, but if IE is missing, they dont run.
