How fast is your fan?

My computer is inclined to hang now and again.
I've upgraded the RAM, and that has speeded everything else up, but hasn't stopped the hanging.
My system monitoring thing shows an error on my CPU fan - it is turning at 998 rpm. It doesn't tell me how fast it should be turning!

If I buy a new fan, I would like to get one that goes at the right speed.
Any ideas how fast that should be?

I have an Acer Veriton M46a, with an intel dual core CPU (800 MHz)

 

It all depends on on the temperature of your cpu, if it's hot it will run faster, if it's cold it will run slower sow whether that speed is too slow is totally dependant on the current temperature of the cpu,1000rpm is typical for a cpu that's idle.

800mhz is the speed of your FSB not your CPU BTW,I can't find a spec page for your computer ATM.

If you would like to test if your cpu is stable under load run this program,choose maximum stress, watch your cpu fan rpm it should increase as your cpu gets hotter.

Let it run for 30 mins,your computer should finish all the tests and give you a score,if it's unstable the test will end,if it's extremely unstable your computer will hang.

Monitor your cpu temperature with this program OR one of your choice,your cpu temp is the one that rises fastest once you start the test. Post the maximum cpu temperature and cpu fan speed during the test.
