How hot is too hot.

How long and at what out door temp. can a laptop set in car? Is there a way to store a laptop in a hot car if the need to do so arises?:confused

Hi to you too. Thanx for the reply. The plan was to leave it in the trunk of car on the job only. Security is not a problem where i work.

 

If the laptop is off, ambient temps won't hurt at all- the processor is not working. If you are using the laptop with extremely high ambient temps, the core temp will rise as will the temp of video card/laptop in general because the coolest the laptop can possibly be is that of the air it takes in to cool it. The processor and video card/RAM generate their own heat. Cooler ambient air= lower operating temps, higher=higher. You should be fine when using it though.

 

The specs of your laptop is listed in the manual. Normally at the end. Look it up.

 

I know someone who leaves his laptop in the back of his car, and he lives in South Texas, where a normal summer day can reach 100 degrees fahrenheit with 80% humidity.

It should be fine, provided you don't leave it in the sun on your dashboard to melt or something.

 

I keep a couple of insulating grocery bags in the trunk in case I buy frozen food items. On a hot day I put my hand inside before taking the bag out and it felt noticeably cooler.

I was reading about the life expectancy of laptop batteries and the author said that heat in laptops (left in cars) caused a significant loss in longevity.

Maybe putting the laptop inside one of those bags might be a good idea.

 

It might, but at the same time, average life of a laptop battery can be as short as a year, so it all depends.
