How I beat my addiction.

I had surgery within the last year and had a lot of recovery time. I'm talking months. In that time my addiction to TV became very, very bad. I wasn't doing what I should have done for my rehab. I sat in bed all day and watched TV day after day after day. My weight went up to 217 lbs. I was normally around 175-180. Something like that.

I decided that I should end my 12+ hours of TV a day so I did.

Some people say the way I went about it was a bit extreme but I say it was necessary. I took my small 13 inch TV out of my house, put it on the curb of my street, got an aluminum pipe that was in my shed, and smashed the **** out of it.

I was literally shaking after it was all done. I couln't believe I did it. I was free.

That was June 1st and I have hardly watched TV since. I went out regularly because there was no TV to watch and my weight went down to 194 lbs in just over 3 months.

I've also done a few more things to make me healthier too, but I'll save those stories for another time.

I just felt like sharing that with everyone.

Greetings ,,I personally think if we can live with more varied tasks ,diversity, more interests the better, maybe getting involved with a volunteer situation in your local hospital,,,anything to change the habit. Any ONE thing can become an addiction, I have many I think I stay at the computer too much,I smoke cigarettes,,,but its also part of my job LOL the computer part , but time for family , friends, music,,,taking your self to a cafe and enjoy a cup of JAVA outside, put on some headphones listen to a favorite CD,,take a walk in a park,,,all of the above are just my coping skills I use,,you may borrow them if you wish !!!,HEY I HAVE BEEN THERE house bound,,,it gets old after awhile, find yourself, its a everlasting journy, Glenn

Congratulations Colonel. Nothing breaks an addiction like a length of pipe. :D

    And will power. ;)

I'm starting to spend a little too much time on the computer too. Maybe I should smash that too, eh? Nah! I'd never do that to my computer. It cost too much money!

    Hmm

Would this work with my Girlfriend? She is too time consuming and expensive.

its aloominum pipe anyway, but I'm sure mild steel will work just as well ;)

I hate TV. The only things I ever watch on TV is the occasional science documentary and the news. In fact I use my TV more for my computer than for watching tv :p (video editing, works well :) ).

I'm probably online too much, but hey I need to be on the pulse of the internet to pick up new design styles and technology trends.
