I would like to install windows on my external HDD , but in BIOS it is disabled. I dont know how to enable it because it is exotic property and i dont see it in my standard BIOS screen.
I need to enter in chipset and enable that feature. Always forget how to get there.

However, is it dangerous that OS runs on USB cord ?

Please help , i need it to recover some data from inbuild hdd, dont want overwrite it.

If the system is bootable you could install PortableApps to a flash drive and then add Explorer++ from the available apps. If the system isn't bootable then a Linux live CD would boot the system and enable you to copy files off. I use Puppy Linux for things like this but there are many others. It would be OTT to install Windows on an external just to solve this problem.

Either of the solutions I have suggested would do what you want with minimum hassle compared to installing Windows, but it's up to you of course.

The safest way to do this is to remove the hard drive. Boot up a working computer (if you don't have one, you need to ask a friend for help). Attach your hd that you wish to remove data from by USB cable to a working booted up computer.
Find the files and either move them to the friend's desktop or attach a USB stick and move them onto that.

If you really wanted to install a version of Windows to a USB drive, you could use a utility like WintoUSB. But in order to boot from that USB drive, you'd need to change your boot type to Legacy, Secure Boot disabled and change boot priority/order so that USB is first.

This is what I had to do with my Dell Inspiron 15-5555. USB booting didn't show in UEFI boot.

I changed Lunch PXE OpROM to Enabled. Laptop is asus x550 . Boot dvd win 10.
I am reported "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Setup does not support configuration of or installation to disks connected through a USB or IEEE 1394 port.

PXE means you are trying to boot from a computer on a network. Is that what you want to do?

The Linux live CD has copy and paste just like Windows. It doesn't write anything to the hard disk but you do need to plug in a USB flash drive or hard disk to receive the copied files. You do need access to a working computer with a CD/DVD writer to create the Linux live CD.

    Boot dvd win 10.
    and my external HDD .

These two pieces tell me you have a usb port and a dvd. You can download "AOMEI PE Builder 1.5". It makes a boot dvd and has "Recuva" included among other tools. It will burn an iso file to the dvd for you.

Once it's burned you just boot to the dvd. It looks like regular windows desktop. Run "Recuva" and save all it finds to the usb connected harddrive.

That's where WintoUSB comes in. Use your Win 10 install DVD for the source and a plugged in USB hard drive for the destination. Change boot as I stated in my previous post and boot to the USB connected hard drive. You'd finish setting up Win 10 and can go from there.

Ok, so you are saying , boot laptop with bootable Live Linux CD, install recovery program on that live linux cd and store recover data on external usb?

The ads I saw say it will make a PE boot cd. However I don't know if it gives the windows desktop or file explorer as we are all familiar with. Or the 'Recuva' tool you want to get your data. Go to the link I gave and download and install. In this amount of time you could of already made and be using your boot cd. It's that easy.

NO!!! You don't install any program on a linux live cd. You boot the computer with it, mount the internal hard drive, plug in a USB stick and copy the files from the mounted internal hard drive to the USB stick. It's like using Windows File manager except you are using a linux file manager to see and copy files from one location to another.

i want recover my data from deleted OS and formatted partitons

The above is from post #3. Can luckyyou actually recover delete files from a formatted partition with a regular live Linux? I believe plodr in #6 is closer in that to hook to a friend's comp but then run 'Recuva' from that comp. Else the AOMEI PE with 'Recuva' from the problem computer.

Hi guy i was away due to my laptop problems. Let me sublime my problem , I deleted, formated all partitions and then started new installation process for 2 minutes after i find out I havent moved some important folders. I tried use EASEUS recover tool, but it is to slow and sometimes after 5h scanning froze at giving results... Also it give too many old recovered partitions so i cant figured out which is need to recover. Yesterday i used similar tool ACTIVE@ , as much i figured out it cant recover older partitions just last one and that is in my case 2 minutes of interupted WIN 10 installation.
Now my idea is to use external HDD with operating system where i can install other recovery programs which require win OS. I believe they will provide me better recovery. However i have here new problem, my laptop doesnt allow OS installation on external HDD connected on USB. I am gettting error 1394, and i need to deal with chipset set up in BIOS which i dont know how to adjust. Any idea ?

This is where WintoUSB would come in. You can use either a DVD or an ISO as the source material and your USB connected drive as the destination. I've used WintoUSB to create several USB hard drives that I can boot either of my laptops from. One is an Intel Core2Duo with BIOS and an MBR type internal disk and the other is an AMD quad core with UEFI. I had to switch the UEFI laptop to Legacy Boot, Secure Boot disabled to get it to boot from USB but, I'm able to work on the UEFI laptop running from the USB connected drive with Windows installed on it.
