I usually do a 28-30 hour day at least once a week. It gets hard to focus once I go bast that 30 hour mark though. I did do 44 about a month ago, and honestly, the last 8 I don't remember a whole lot of.

    About 75 hours

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" ;)

Not something to aim for, just something that does happen sometimes.
It was during summer back when i was doing night-fill (restocking supermarket shelves)
    working from 18:00 to 02:00

You go through a lot of stages including heightened awareness and total zombie-like brain function (brain-on, brain-off) not a good time to be driving a car or operating any type of heavy machinery.

End result: When I finally did get to sleep, I overslept by 12 hours and kinda missed my shift

It depends on what my incentive is. Just hanging out, not being required to do anything, I think the longest I've gone without sleep is 28 hours or so.

However, the longest I've ever been required to be awake due to work was 37 1/2 hours on the clock, plus figure an hour before that to get there and another two afterward to calm down enough to sleep again...what's that, 40 1/2 hours? I was really, REALLY stupid by the end of it.

Have to admit, was curious when I read the thread title myself!!!! The first 2 replies just confirmed I was on the right track too ;)

Me too. Depends on whether I'm working on a project or not. If I am 48+ hrs. Otherwise, I try to get at least 2-3 hrs. sleep. Not that much, I know - but anything is better than nothing. Medications can knock me out for a few critical hours, at least. As said, not really desirable, but it happens.

Low doses of Strychnine supposedly works, too. ;)

LOL... I have to admit, when I first saw this title on my google home page (I keep an RSS feed of the longe there... I am such a geek :)) I was wondering.

I decided not to say much to be on the safe sid,e but not that someone opened the can of worms...... You ever notice those commercials for viagra and cialis and such where they mention that if you are up for more than 4 hours to call your doctor?? Me, I would be calling everyone I know :)

Just hanging out.. I've been awake probably 29 hours straight and working 27 hours, would have been 33 but luckily some came to cover my shift at noon.

I have driven from Sacramento CA to Louisiana non stop. And from Louisiana to Los Angeles. I was seeing some strange stuff.

Very stupid to do. I would not do it again. Now I stay up around 16 hours, maybe 20 if I am working on my computer or playing a new game.

How long can I stay up, I would guess 48 hours or so, would not want to try it.

I once did a 60 hour stretch . . . but I was only 20 and athletic at that time (oh, how I yearn for the days of my youth . . . lol). Every 12 hrs or during the second day I had episodes which I now label "resets" where I'd get dizzy and sick . . . I'd have to sit down and find some stationary object to stare at for three or four minutes. Then I'd be fine, able to eat something and slam down a soda, and was ready to go again.

I think now when I was "resetting" I was probably actually asleep for those few mins.

Yeah reading these posts like How the heck do you stay up for 75 HOURS? YOU PEOPLE ARE CRAZY :D !!!. My next goal is 36 hours maybe this weekend but i like to go to sleep early. When i was on summer vacation i stayed up until like 6AM and then work up at 4PM for like a month. But i cat do that anymore because now i have to get up in the morning at 6AM and catch the bus for school. Yeah i end this post i know its getting very boring now. I miss staying up until 6AM :cry. maybe i will on my next long break :D

It is not something to aim for, as far as I know it can actually be quite dangerous

For me it was not a deliberate choice, more a result of temperature, noise and working odd hours.

Sleeping during the day in summer in a Northerly facing room (southern hemisphere ;)) is nigh on impossible for me.

I would have been able to get a couple of hours sleep on each of those days, but for me a couple of hours sleep makes me feel worse than no sleep at all in the short-term.

Back in the 70's I used to work 29, 24 and 22 hours straight, discharging a White products tanker when it came to our remote mining site.

White products consists of ATK (Aviation Jet Fuel), PMS (Petrol), and Diesel. It was pumped up the same pipeline with a water plug in between products. Dangerous stuff, particularly Petrol. We had to monitor the products being pumped up the line and watch for the changes of colour between product
and water, then switch products into different storage tanks on shore.

After my 29 hour stint I couln't stay awake, and "on the ball" any longer, and said I was going home.

After that the powers-that-be finally trained up other Tank Farm Supervisors so we could go back to 12 hour shifts. :major

I agree here with Darlene - this is supposed to be a site open to all ages. PCClover is only 14 or so.
    :(

On the subject of staying up, i usually stay up for 19 to 20 hours 6 days a week, then sleep 19 to 20 hours on the 7th day. :)

I did about the same in the military......had a series of of engine troubles happen, one after the other and there was no garage to pull into. LOL I ended up falling asleep in the bilges with no ear protection and six huge diesels running next to me.:zzz

Cool pic, Bill. Not a pretty sight but these were the monsters I worked on. V-16's with 248 cu.in. per cylinder, 10 1/2 in. stroke and 8 in.bore. These pics were taken after de-commissioning.

I guess I'm just too immature for such a sophisticated and intelligent world, full of people who would never do something simply to impress another.:cry

Heheheh... well, I guess I have to impress you all then with my 38 hour stretch. WHen I went to bed last night around midnight, I had been up for just over 38 hours (like 38 hours and 10 minutes :))

I feel hung over today tho, even though I didn't drink any alcohol.

PS: I slept for 8 hours

Just staying up all night makes me sick, even when I was young, like you said Calltaker like a hangover no alcohol involved.
My all-nighters usually included a sick child. (mine)

A time once when I had a drug induced way of staying up (not proud of this); I stayed up for over 30 hours but no no more than 40, if I remember correctly.

It is true you begin to hallucinate, visual and auditory hallucinations arise.

I think your eyes actually get a good work out too. Usually when sleeping your eyes are not really focusing on too much.

La to Louisiana non stop? thats brave...i didn't know that was possible, scary to think of. I don't like not sleeping, i feel like a zombie, and ruins my entire week, and sometimes my month.
