How many forum members does it takes to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been
    changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light
    bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

    3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6
to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is
    "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light
    bulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take
this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to
buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the
    corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to
this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including
all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions
    about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and
    start it all over again

I want to see before and after pictures of the light bulb in question. And how did you determine the light bulb was bad? ;)

You mean in general, or compared to the original?

And I agree with Fred. How did you troubleshoot this?

Has anyone verified that the light switch works? And does the building have power? And is this light in question an indoor light or an outdoor light? We may need to consult a licensed Sparky for this endeavor.

We need blueprints, type of testing done, and perhaps some other information.

We don't need this going on! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrdblID5as4

While I agree overall, the actual number of posts could be more depending on the type of bulb, the location of the bulb, and the required method of replacing said bulb.

Of course there is always the technical knowledge level of the person asking for help on how to change said bulb.

And as stated earlier in the thread, perhaps the bulb is good, and another part is at fault. roflmao :wine

How do you know that? Technology changes faster than the language... :-D

Could be a helium filled bulb that has nothing to do with lighting. LOL!

IMHO we should compare to the original; need a screenshot and specs on both the original and the replacement. Then I would need to post specs in the Hardware Forum since we all know I don't know chit about hardware.

After review by the professionals I'm sure they would find a better light thingy than the planned replacement. Then we would have to decide what to call our new light emitting object, is it really a light-bulb, off to Hot Button Forum for the debate. Lucky for us MGs doesn't need a light emitting object to order to work!

*grins* We're so easy to amuse

Does the OP want to overclock said bulb? How many watts (assuming it is a light emitting device) does it crank out at stock voltages?

We may need to download and flash the firmware to an open source version..:-D

By quoting everyone, the server overload will blow the damn bulb up, destroy the fixture, put a hole in the roof and we all have a new skylight.:celebrate

what about the light bulb socket? remeber, if it is an AM2+ lightbulb, then it will not work in a AM3 socket.

  29. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Good point Speculant! But we need to know what OS. I suspect this is an Intel rig though...

Does bring up another point, is the fixture of the 12 volt variety or are we talking AC type power? The PSU could be underpowered or an el-cheapo one!

Or perhaps, DOS 3.2? Backwards compatibility issues? 8bit vs 16bit vs 32 vs 64? There are so many angles and issues --- we may never get to the bottom of this.

I hate to embarrass all of you but no one has raised the primary issues relating to this uh...issue that need to be discussed first.

    1) What country is the theoretical member (or are the memberS if, indeed, more than one forum member is required for this epic task -- no one seems to have taken into account that a single member might well decide it would be preferable to croak himself/herself rather than continue reading all the posts on this issue) in. ["in"? in what? who's on first?]

    2) What is the a) standard electrical voltage and b) the AC cycles-per-second [aka Hertz, usually abbreviated as Hz and not to be confused with the pet bird food brand "Hertz Mountain" -- but a sinister voice from somewhere whispers "Hey, know-it-all, the bird food is Hartz Mountain!"] in said country?

2a) Is the theoretical location in question connected to a standard electrical supply line or is the electricity being supplied by a non-standard generator powered, for example, by a gerbil running in a round rotating squirrel cage (ok, ok....a round rotating gerbil cage)...or a heavy duty version of same whose ultimate power source are three hamsters in a troika team in the extra-large, extra-wide version of the same round rotating squirrel/gerbil/hamster cage? (I would like to point out that the SGH Rotating Cage Company, LLC, sells, at a very attractive price, a Three-In-One cage that easily converts between the three formats (the third power uh source, being, of course, squirrels) to provide maximum flexibility of use of whatever uh, power sources are available. The deluxe version will even allow the several types of power sources to be used in combination, but this requires the administration, to said varied power sources, of some mind-altering drugs to fool them into thinking they are all compatible and doing equal amounts of work -- otherwise they will start making signs and go on strike...uh, but back to our regularly scheduled rant....)

    4) Does the aforesaid theoretical country even have AC current as standard or are they still living in the DC "dark ages" (HA HA HA -- get it? :) Dark Ages -- Get it?! :-D )

    5) Could it be that the bulb in question actually runs on DC via a transformer plugged into an AC outlet? This raises questions about the viability of the transformer itself but lest I rant on in one of my long LOOOOONG epic posts [what? I already have? uh...uh....] I will only mention the possibility that the transformer has burned [Important sub-sub question -- is "burned" correct? Or should it read "burnt"?] out [out? out what? What's on second! Who's on first!] and the bulb itself is fine and doesn't need to be changed. Maybe we need a new transformer for said perfectly functioning DC powered device of which the perfectly functioning light bulb is a part.

I will leave it to the rest of you to explore the ramifications of a possibly defective transformer at the root of this problem as well as further power supply questions.

And you sir/madam -- whoever started this. Please tell us more about the light bulb in question -- whether or not it is a stand alone device or part of another device; how old is it; are you capable of changing it yourself; how much experience you have changing light bulbs; if the bulb in question is part of another device please give full specs on said device, most especially info about any transformer that the device requires; info about any backup generator used, even if only occasionally, to supply the device/transformer with power.

P.S. I do have one final question for you all....Who's on third?! [Voice from the salmonella-infected peanut gallery replies....] "Who's on first! What's on second! And I don't give a coyote/squirrel/gerbil/hamster-howl at the moon about third!!!"

P.P.S Haven't any of the admins here noticed that the light bulb icon I chose for this post is incorrectly labeled "LIGHTBULB" instead of light bulb?! {In the "Post Icon" box...."You may choose an icon for your message from the following list:" etc etc} Such an egregious (pardon my french!) and glaring (;) "glaring"...get it? glaring HA HA HA...get it? :-D ) error. What's that going to do to the rep of this site once word gets around! I'm really amazed. Furthermore the obvious prejudice and ridicule that I can already feel emanating from whole "I hate..." gerbils/squirrels/hamsters/ AND howl-at-the-moon-coyotes/not to mention the wallaby and kangaroo bigots has made it clear just what kind of scum-encrusted Cthulhu-[ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu ]loving deviates and sub-humans you all are here. I'm going to look for another forum where I can direct my loving goodwill, benevolent intellect and knowledge and condescension [no, wait...I didn't mean that last..strike that...what??? My time to edit has inspired? Uh...EXpreid!!?? UH>>>>>EXPIRED? What about my first amendment rights!] toward all without being the butt of such unenlightened prejudice as is so much in evidence here. I've merely been trying to shed a little light :)-D You can see it coming now can't you? CAN'T YOU!? And it tickles the toenails doesn't it? "shed a little LIGHT..." HAHAHA Get it? LIGHT GET IT?! :-D:-D:-D

P.P.P.S. Is anyone pitching? Catching? Eating hot dogs? Is there really a game in progress? And please, PLEASE....WHO, dammit IS ON FIRST? (Yet another tired voice from the peanut gallery....) "That's right...you've got it at least...uh..at last....Who is on first!"

And finally (really, I mean it this time..finally) good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are. (Uh, someone turn out those spot lights please...or is it spotlights???)

    Whew! Where are my meds???
