I'm building a new rig, and I would like to know your opinion about how much watt a power supply I would need, and a bit more just to be safe.

I'm gonna run a Q6600, maybe overclocked when it gets old, 3 sata hard drives, one or two DVD-R drives, 4 gigs RAM, and maybe run SLI someday

There's lots of things to take into consideration when buying a new PSU. Straight wattage is only the tip of the iceberg: I'd rather have a $120 525w unit, than a $59 680w unit. You need to look at amps per rail, number of +12v rails, efficiency ratings, line noise, warranty, etc. Most of your quality units have at least a 3yr warranty, mine has a 5yr, and others have 7yrs or even lifetime warranties. The PSU is probably the most important part of the PC as it supplies all of the power to each component, yet it's a part that many people overlook and tend to go cheap with. Do your research. Personally, I wouldn't look at anything less than 600w or 650w without SLI; 700w or 750w with SLI. Here's a good guide to power supply info: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/181 and here's a link to page after page of different power supply tests and reviews http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/page/power By reading a few reviews, you can get a good idea of what to look for in a power supply. When you have a make and model in mind (preferably 2 or 3 different makes and models) you'll want to Google each one and read each individual unit's reviews and tests. Post them here too and we'll offer our help and opinions....

Let us know how it goes ;)

I'm looking at either this one: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/555
    or this one: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/553

good thing with the antec is that it has more watts, which means that it will be using less power for the same workload than the pc power one. Problem with the antec is that there is more noise when it's pulling 850 W, but that doesn't seem like a problem, since I will never use that much.

good thing with the pc power, it has 90% efficiency when at 40% of its capacity.

hmmm which one do you think I should get?

I'm lazy :tired and don't feel like reading two PSU reviews, so I'll say this: PC Power has a large fan base, and lots of folks say they're the best thing since peanut butter and jelly in the same jar, but they are LOUD... I mean REALLY LOUD! Yes, they are excellent PSUs, but the Antec (IMO) is the way to go, unless you don't mind having your PC sound like there's a small jet plane inside trying to take off....
