    Is intel i7 1.5 times faster or 2 times faster than a AMD Athlon 2 X3 445?

I have this HP desktop computer that I have for about 1 year and it is too slow for video editing.I use the comnputer every day for video editing.

    I have a AMD Athlon 2 X3 445 , 4GB RAM and 1TB hard-drive . I'm thinking of putting it on ebay and getting a new computer.Well price is not a problem and will spend 1,500 on a faster new computer .

My question is how much faster will new computer be ? And is the AMD Athlon 2 X3 445 any good than say intel i7 ?Or did I got a low budget :cry computer?

If the intel i7 is only 1.5 times faster or 2 times faster than a AMD Athlon 2 X3 445 than is it worth it to get a new computer?

    Okay I checked http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

The AMD Athlon II X3 445 comes at 2,707 and the Intel Core i7-2600K come at 9,108 so that is like 4 times faster looking at it.

The best of best if one has lots money is Intel Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz that comes in at 14,038 there is no faster CPU.

I could get a Intel Core i5-2400S 2.50GHz or Intel Xeon 2.67GHz that come in at 5,000 that would be 2 times faster than what I have.

The Xeon 2.67GHz that come in at 5,000 and the top of the line is the Intel Core i7-3960X 3.30GHz that come in at 14,038 almost 15,000 that is 3 times faster than Xeon 2.67GHz that come in at 5,000 .

Here's Anand's CPU comparator as well to help you decide,I'm not sure the date it goes to,it has the I7 3820 and the I5 2400-

BTW the 2600K won't be 4 times faster in real world as you can see by the video encoding benchmarks, none will encode video in much less than half the time of your current CPU.

That I5 sandybridge looks like a really good option though for video encoding...

If your building a new computer, I would like to offer a few friendly suggestions.

With CPU's they have become so complicated. There is no clear winner. Sure you can look at all the benchmarks you want, How they gonna work for what you want? What about price?

Imho when building a new computer, I believe the trick is the motherboard. I just built a new one and this time I went all out on the motherboard. I went with the Asus Sabertooth 990FX.

I have always been a AMD guy. Is it better or worse than intel ? Who can say. AMD you can overclock pretty easy. This motherboard should have no problem not only supporting future AMD Processors, But it supports previous Processors.

I picked the 6 core 3.3, Its the AMD FX6100. No matter which processor you use, Most software will never push it to its full capabilities. I did decide to go with a Sealed unit Water cooled option. Processors are getting so big and bad, IMHO, they need more that just fans to keep them cool.

Now I paid 1500 for mine. I would research and see which CPU is better for video editing. My setup, I would have no problem putting it up against the Latest Greatest INTEl. Real world, Dont think you would notice a Difference in the two, Benchmarks may tell a different story.

I just can not stress enough, Don't go cheep on the motherboard. Get the best you can afford. That way you can upgrade with no problems.

Research it lots. Hope that helps.
