How much memory for media center

I am in the process of trying to update my computer and I want to put in more memory, i currently have 2 gb and would like 4 as my motherboard will take 4 gb

When i called to get a price and told the sales person I wanted to buy 2gb he asked which op i was using and I said a media center and he told me that Media center could not use 4 gb and to only get 1 gb more rather then the 2 i was planning on. is this correct? can media center only use 3 gb of memory?

 

I'm not sure what the sales person meant by that, but if your pc supports 4gb of memory, go for it. That is one of the best upgrades you can make. Just make sure it's compatible with the memory that's already installed. Check your computer specs or look up your pc model # online. If you have a 32-bit operating system, you can install 4GB, but Media Center will only report and use 3-3.5GB of that. It's a complicated story as to why that is, but the bottom line is, you can have a total of 4GB of system memory, and the RAM on your video card as well as in other places also counts towards that total.
