How much memory is required 2 install xp?

    Silly question really, just wondered how much memory on my hard drive i would need to install microsoft windows xp? as i have a an old toshiba portege 7020ct that needs an operating system, its running a pentium II processor 333Mhz i think please let me know if it aint a very wise idea to attempt to put xp on it even if its possible and which operating system you would reccomend? (it only has a 6GB hard drive)

    you would however with a PC of that min spec if you did get XP to install, have to turn off all the fancy menus, colours etc

    I would try it but you would more likely get better results with Win98SE or if your up for it maybe Linux or one of the many varients?

    I have an old Compaq (dumpster dive special)with an AMD 500 MHz processor, 64 MB memory and a 6 GB HD and I have Windows 2000 on it. It'll give you the NTFS file system and NT kernel like XP but without the fancy menus, graphics, animations, and extras that would slow down an older computer like yours (and mine). I could use some more memory, but I'm reluctant to put money into something I picked from the trash.

    Have considered running linux but am not sure as i have never seen the os myself, Is it worth running then? If so do you know what the latest release is?
