how much memory usage is normal for IE7?

My PC has been running slow, and I've turned up no viruses/trojans, etc. But I have noticed that Internet Exp. 7running on my Windows XP system is using a lot of memory regardless of what I'm doing. It seems to be using between 80,000 and 100 k at all times. Is that normal?

 

No, that's not normal. Have you tried deleting your Browsing history?

 

I deleted all my temp. internet files a few days ago, hoping that would help. Just deleted my browsing history on your advice, but no change. Right now IE7 is using 112,000 k.

What should I do to try to solve this?

Thanks. I followed all the steps on the basic computer maintenance sticky and the malware removal sticky, and it seems the maintenance sped things up to normal. So you're right, it wasn't IE7 slowing me down. Two remaining questions though:

1. What is a good free process tracker to use instead of Task Manager?

2. It still makes me uneasy that IE7 has started using so much memory. Visiting the same sites on my laptop, uses half the memory than when I visit them on my PC. Whether it slows me down or not, I wonder what IE7 is doing to use up the extra memory. Is it tracking something? Could some program be accessing my PC to use the CPU for processing? Could it just be my bloated Norton Internet Security 2007 update, which I installed about a month ago on my PC?
