    Hi all,

In general, would a paid subscription to an Anti-malware program - such as Malwarebytes - be enough for my WIN10 laptop (AND my Android phone) be enough protection, or is it really more important to have an actual Anti-Virus program (such as a Bit-Defender or Windows Defender program), please?

    Thx in advance!

    I can't answer about Win 10 - I don't run it.

I found Malwarebytes to be very slow on my android phone (even though I have 5 paid lifetime licenses running on 5 Windows computers and am happy with it on those devices). I removed MBAM and used paid ESET for a time on android but now I use the free version of ESET. I am very good about updating ESET on 2 android tablets and my phone and running scans. I don't use my phone to surf so I don't feel the need for all that the paid version offers. YMMV.

I use Defender but also have Malwarebytes (lifetime paid) but Defender as the default AV. MB is just for backup scanning.

The NAT on your router (or CG-NAT if your provider uses that monstrocity) is enough to protect you from the big bad Internet. Everything else just protects you from yourself (or others on your network).

Windows Defender alone should be sufficient, supplemented with the occasional online scan. E.g. I use Trend Micro Housecall on my dev system before new software releases. The releases are also uploaded to VirusTotal, although that's mostly just so I can get ahead of any false positives.
