I came across this Poll today. I won't quote the link as it is a rival Downloader site to MG. Note that ΒΌ of all respondents have 1 TB or more.

First poll I have tried. Hope it works. :-D

Right now I am thinking of making a NAS to use my 2 - 3TB drives.
My Windows Home Server has 8TB. 4x2TB for PC backups, etc.
Why? Because I can. I said to the fiance last night I am a hoarder of technology.
Counting every drive I own in a PC or spares I'd go to 20TB.

Remember having my 1st PC Dell, Dimension 2400 with 20 GB in 2003. In 2004 got a Dell 4600i with 40 GB cause thought that doubling up would be plenty. :-D In 2008 an IT tech installed a 160 GB and that's what it is now with 135 GB free space. Time to free up some space by flushing the restore points eh? LOL

My first hard drive was also a 20 megabyte hard drive, back in the '80's
Anyone remember the 20 meg Seagate? ;)

I want to say 120GBs. Not bad for what I use my computer for.

I had a SFD-1001, 1MB floppy drive for my Commodore 64. That was mass storage.
And the 1571 that would do double sided disks.
Regular 5 1/4" floppies were 640k? I think, it was a lifetime ago.

I started with a 30MB HDD (a $300 upgrade at the time) on my first IBM clone back in 1988. The fact I was able to start my PC without using a 5.25" floppy boot disk was amazing! :-D

Currently, I have the following amount of storage spread out among my PCs:

    • Main PC at home (doubles as a media server): 1TB, about 60% free space.
    • Notebook PC, 320GB (about 50% free).
    • Main tech PC at my shop: 1TB (about 50% free).
    • Point-Of-Sale PC at my shop: 1TB, about 95% free.
    • Carbonite online backups of main PCs.

Update on my previous post about 10 days ago regarding hard drive pricing: Due to the flooding in Malaysia that resulted in severe damage to both WD and Seagate's factories, prices continue to climb. I was able to buy 320GB notebook drives @ $45/each two weeks ago; now they're up to almost $80 at my main wholesaler. At this point - unless you're desperate for more storage space - hold off on new HDDs for about 5-6 months until the supply chain (and hopefully prices) return to normal. rolleyes
