How Odd ?

There is a certain website that whenever i try to sign on it says that aol or IE has to close because of an error.

The error signature says app name waol.exe appver 8.0.0.0 modname j (or i) gdw400.dll mod ver 82.0.0.0 offset 0000440f
and in the error report it says the follwing files are included in this error report

c:\docume¬ (i can never find the real sign but you know the one i mean)1\alanco¬1\locals¬1\Temp\497f_appcompat.txt

Any idea what the problem is?

 

The file waol.exe is the executable file for the AOL user interface which allows you to logon to the AOL network, and the Internet.

Do you use the AOL software? If not, I would uninstall it completely!

Also, probably wouldnt hurt for you to run CCleaner

 

Well i think the more i visit the more i learn. I sussed out that the \temp part must have meant the problem was in my temporary files so i ran ccleaner and its ok now. Thanks for your help----not that i needed it ha ha. Any idea what caused the problem ???

 

You stated the above was in the error report so I assumed that the problem was coming from TEMP files. Sometimes files in the TEMP folder and others like the CONTENT.IE5 folder can contain bad files which can cause problems.

My personal opinion I would keep CCleaner handy and use it everytime I walked away from the computer, just to keep the "junk" cleaned.
