How Should I Go About Saving My Videos, Etc.?

My HD is so badly infected, I'm going to format. I now have to use safe mode.
My videos are my main concern. I'm buying a new standalone HD, formatted and with W7 installed.
Once that is done, I Plan to make IT the C: drive, making this one D.
Now come my questions. When I do that, will my D drive function normally? If not, how can I take my video files off the old HD onto the new one?
I'm also very worried that the filth that infected this drive will change lodgings into the new one. So how can I avoid that and still get my videos back?
Once my videos are safe, I'll wipe out everything else on this infected drive.
Since i suspect the filth killed my windows access by deleting drivers, I'm assuming the fresh W7 installation on the NEW C:\ drive will supply them to both hard drives. Is this correct? Or is it a possibility the filth will delete the drivers on the new HD? This stuff is out of my depth.
    Thanks!

Put your old drive in an external enclosure that connects to the PC's USB port.
Then copy the videos to the new drive.

If you connect the infected drive, you are likely to infect the new one.

I'm not sure I understand. If I connect this infected drive to the USB Port, how can I take the videos off of it and put them on the new HD without connecting the two drives and maybe infecting the new one too?
Might it be better to have an expert do all this for me? He's out of the country and won't be back for several weeks. I'd rather not wait if I can get this done sooner.

I would suggest you first follow the mechanics suggestion and run the Kaspersky disc. Then do the Read and Run First instructions in the Malware forum and start a thread with your logs.

It's feeling like I may be making progress here!
I'm downloading both files. Kaspersky sounds like the best, but I'm leery of the company. Shouldn't I be?
I suspect my problem is erased drivers. Can either of those downloads replace them?
What I'd like to do is put my videos on a USB Flash drive. Is that possible? From safe mode? If it is, how? Couldn't I buy TWO of those drives, put my videos on one, and Kaspersky on the other, then see if Kaspersky will reboot my present OS? Does that sound like a plan?
I know a USB device self-installs, but how do I USE it?
How do I go about accessing and putting stuff on one of those USB drives?
Will my infection travel to the USB drive, along with the videos? What is muddling me is procedures, Tab A into Slot B, you know.
So I still need some help, but am seeing a bit of light now, thanks to all of you. I think it'll be wise to keep my videos only on the USB drive. So this can't happen again.

Oh, boy, I feel SO stupid! I bought my PC tower used 3 years ago. I noticed there was a finger-like thing sticking out, but ignored it. Now I checked Device Manager, and find I already have a mass storage device! I can't learn how big it is, and know nothing about how to access it at all. If I can access it, could I start filling it right now with my videos?
I haven't had a clue, all along, that I even HAD this thing. WHY? I just updated the driver for it, so it should work. I'd like to know what's in it before I start dumping stuff inside.
My Computer tells me I have this disk, my CDROM and FOUR "removable drives," but each of those asks me to insert a disk, so none can be the USB drive. It's odd that it even shows four drives that I don't have. It even showed a floppy drive, but there is none in my tower.
I think the prior owner put a partition on my HD. If so, could access to the USB be limited to him? If so, what can I do to make it accessible to me?
Help me get moving on using this USB thing, please!

Take a picture of this 'finger-like thing sticking out' and upload it.

Can't. No camera. It's black, about 2" long and about as thick as the power cord for my PC. Tried to pull it out, but didn't. I didn't want to pull too hard. I noticed it could easily swivel in circles, like it had a ball bearing or something. If it's not a Flash drive, what else might it be?

I notice there are two types of mass storage USB devices, .02 and .03. Can't tell which kind I have. What's t he difference?

Sorry to be so much trouble. I'm not as agile as you guys are, at 73 and in a wheelchair. I'm stuck using safe mode, and everything's hard to read. I do try, though.

Okay. It'll take a few days. I don't get out much. Sunday, my cleaning lady will be able to do it. She's a student of computer engineering, and has a good iPh9ne.
    Be back...

Sounds like an adjustable aerial on a WiFi card...as a wild guess?
Similar to my Netgear WiFi extender...although this plugs into a mains supply and not the PC.

You were right. It is an aerial. Msri, my domicilia (cleaning lady) is a computer engineering student, and she identified it immediately. It's odd that Device Manager shows a mass storage device. I think one of t hose will solve my problem. I'm buying a whole new OS and two USB Mass storage devices. I'll put the files I want to save on those. Then I can format C and install the new OS. Does that sound like a plan?
One question. Can I move files from Safe Mode to the new USB device? Mari told me that my system infections should not travel with those files unless specifically attached to a file. She says I DO have an outlet to install one. I hope that's right; she's not in programming.
So I will move my files there, reinstall the OS and that's it.
BTW, can I erase files on the USB thingy, or are they permanent?
However, one worry. These people are REALLY after me. Should I change my IP address? Or get a router, a VPN or a proxy (or a combination)? What do you recommend?

Again, thanks so much for your help. If you can think of a way I can whack back at this hacker, my ears are open!

I have downloaded Kaspersky. Remember, I'll have to use Safe Mode to put the Kaspersky cleaner onto the new USB, and launch it from there. Can this be done in safe mode? I can view the video, but I can't hear it. No sounds in safe mode.
My guess is that Kaspersky won't put me back into Windows, since I think drivers have been deleted. Still, I'll need it to kill the hack, where possible. A hack is different from other infections, isn't it?
I'll have to wait till I get the new devices. Can't dash out to a store in a wheelchair!
    Be back...

Yes you can use Safe Mode to burn the .iso to disc, then change your BIOS boot order to boot from the rescue disc - that puts you outside of using Windows 7 OS and into using a Linux based OS to run Kaspersky AND to copy the files you want to save. *Study the link that I gave again.

You didn't read the link Dr. Moriarty gave you. Using a thumb drive....you need to go into the bios and change the boot up options to thumb drive first. Then insert your drive and reboot.

It sounds as though asking your cleaning lady, the computer engineering student, for help would be a great idea.
