So sorry if I am repeating... I have been reading for the past three weeks...at least....... trying, failing, trying....and at last I have completed (I hope/think).

The final scans (Virus and HJT, plus numerous advised others) showed no problems!!!? But I am concerned that I am being snowed. How can I be completely sure that all is well?????? I have WXP and knew I had HSR and about:blank and pandascan showed some trojan which was disinfected.....

Also, I ran the Pandascan at least four times throughout this entire nightmare and it seemed to find the most important things the first time that McAfee has erred in finding this past year. Should I axe McAfee and its' billion running processes, for something obviously more reliable?

Sorry in advance for the duplication, you all are the best as I have read more than my share......thanks for, what I look forward to as, final advice....AASH

McAfee does run too many processes. If your going to pay, I suggest NOD32. If not, AntiVir seems to be liked a lot.

Is your McAfee up to date? Lots of people get 2-3 month trials with their computers and never subscribe, so their virus definitions are out of date, meaning your AV does not recognize newer viruses

McAfee completely up to date. Seems we run an update daily which in turn made me feel so "problem free".

I have since completing all, rebooted several times regularly, run HJT (once in safe mode) with no problems listed at all! The registry mechanic is running on startup and does list an increasing number of problems I continue to repair without purchase. I have used the internet browser and had no problems.

Should I do anything else to avoid recurrence or to ensure all is completely fixed?

Thanks again. Last week, I was swearing, but feel a lot better tonight!!!

    I do appreciate all!!!! AASH

SpywareBlaster may help, but using an alternative browser like Firefox would be best. If you want to spend a few bucks, the new Ad-Aware blocking is pretty awesome.
