How to boot from a DVD

Hi, I have a vaio laptop. I had a creaking sound from the laptop one day. I had to restart it. From that point the computer is rebooting, the windows startup screen is coming and then again it starts to reboot. I am not sure of what to do. Can any one help me in this regard. I have a boot disk. I am not aware of how to run from a boot disk. I opened the bios set up and enabled book from external device, but was not able to find the boot from dVd option.

any help in this issue is great.

 

I am not even able to shut it down. So I am having to remove the battery .. help me ..thanks

 

You should be able to go into your BIOS and select the boot order, set the Optical drive (CD/DVD) as the first preference ...

 

I did that and it still not booting.. I selected the internal optical drive as the first option. I put the DVD in the DVDrom and it is still going on and off.. I mean

welcome screen---> windows startup and then switching off and welcome screen...........> startup....

 

It didn't ask you to press "any key"?

 

thanks for the help. I took it to staples and I was told it had a failed hard drive. I took out the hard drive and I am planniing to recover data from that to a different computer using a connector into a USB port. It is recognized for a few seconds and by the time I access it goes missing. Any help?
