I am trying to start win 98 on another laptop.
    I have downloaded this software
    http://www.startdisk.com/Web1/ubd/ubd.htm

Do I now simply burn it to cd ( I have nero 6) ? or do i have to specify somehow
that it is a boot disc ?? as i dont see this option listed (and have only 1 cd)
    thanks for your help

This comes from the Startdisk site. It goes on a floppy disk, not a CD.
    CAUTION:
The Ultimate Boot Disk is for personal computers running Windows 95, 98 or ME. If your PC has less than 32MB of memory or a quad-speed or slower CD-ROM drive, do not use these disks, go here instead.
    TO INSTALL THE PROGRAM
    1. Download the boot disk file for your Windows version.
    2. Close your browser and double-click on the file.
    3. Insert a floppy disk in your A: drive, click OK.
    4. Windows should display a window like the one below:
    5. Once the wizard completes, close it and click the "START" button to copy DOS files.
    6. When installation has finished, you will see a "THANK YOU" message and can remove the disk.
    ADDITIONAL NOTES
    1. Be sure the PC and floppy disk are virus-free.
    2. Test the UBD to make sure it can access your CD-ROM which will be drive X:\.
    3. If your operating system is not in the default, "C:\Windows" location you will need to edit config.sys file as well as all of the config.* files and the msdos.lng file in the A:\SYS subfolder.
    4. For more UBD installation help click here.

Slight problem, dont have a floppy drive,
is it posible to burn the boot disc onto a cd on this machine (with no floppy) and then have it working in the other (non working machine) (with a floppy)?
    any other possibilites?
    thanks in advance!

All you should need to do is have the program copy the files to the folder of your choice, then use a program such as WinImage to make an image of the files, then burn the image to CD using Nero's 'burn from image' option. That's what I did to create my Win98SE boot CD. Works great & loads sooo much faster than the floppy drive.
