I think this discussion took place long ago, so I am not sure if anyone is watching it any more. However, if you are still there Askantik, I have managed to get my iMovie off the iPad on to my windows PC as a MOV file, but cannot find a way to read it or burn it to disc once there. So I have the opposite problem to you.
In case it's still relevant to someone, I exported the completed iMovie to camera roll, then used "Photo Transfer App" (iTunes, inexpensive) to transfer this to a folder on my PC? I can provide detailed steps if needed.
Please can you (or anyone) advise me how to burn the resulting MOV file to disc. I cannot even read it in Quick Time. Is this because I don't have the right codecs or because it is too long (25mins) or because I am still using XP? Advice gratefully received!!

Have a look at this thread, particularly post #8 about DVDFlick.

Try VLC, it has all the codecs needed to play MOV files

If you'd prefer not to install it, grab the portable version
    http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable
run the program and keep it in a folder on your desktop or on a USB stick. Click the exe file and then click File in the VLC menu and open the MOV you want to view.

To burn to a viewable DVD, the MOV file has to be converted.
Here is a thread mentioning a few converters

Thank you both. I think I have moved a step forward!

I had VLC media player but it was old so I updated it. It still would not read the 25min MOV file. However, I then created a much shorter file in imovie the same way and this was read by VLC without problem. This suggests that the 25min version is corrupted in some way, either because of its length or because there was a pause in the middle of saving it when the ipad ran out of space. So I have tonight saved a new version (18mins long) and tomorrow I will try transferring it to the PC ....

IF this works, I now know that the MOV file is accessible to MAGIX photostory and I can burn a DVD from there, so I would be home and dry. Watch this space!

    Thanks again for your help.

An update and a request for further help, please.

I can now save an iMovie as a mov file to camera roll in the ipad, transfer to PC with "photoTransferApp", then upload into Magix Photostory for CD and DVD 10 and burn to a disc which is readable on my DVD player for the TV. Great! BUT the output is jerky/juddery, especially when panning a video shot or zooming a still shot. It is really pronounced and not acceptable. So near and yet so far!

When playing the same files on VLC media player (thanks Plodr) on the PC they are acceptable, though the 1080p version has a slight interference issue.

I have scanned the advice "out there" and gather that this could be to do with converting progressive to interlaced and adjusting the frame rate for TV viewing. I have therefore tried saving as 1080p and 720p on the ipad, and changing the format to MP4 or MPEG-2 on the PC (using Aimersoft video converter) - still jerky when uploaded into Magix. I have also tried using Aimersoft DVD creator - same problem.

Again from comments in the internet, it seems possible that this could be related to the older PC and laptop I am using (ca 4 years) and/or the fact that we have chosen fo to stay with XP. Perhaps they just can't cope??

    Any suggestions please?

    Linda
