How to catch a hacker?

Ok, I've been running a wireless network for a while now, put up an (almost) useless WEP encryption, changed the SSID, put a strong password on the router, etc, etc. However, I know if someone is determined, I am still vunerable, as all of the steps provided before are deterents, not real protection.

Hence my question: other than viewing the security log on my router, how can I find out if someone is stealing my wifi? And if I find them, how can I easy kick them off, or at least let them know they've been caught? I've tried googling this stuff, and most of the info I've found came from the other side, showing how to get around the very protections I'd set up. Comforting to say the least. Any advice would be appreciated.

 

This is the tricky thing, how to see who's using your network - essentially.
There's a tool in the MG downloads I used to use, I'll try and find it for you, and it basically showed who was on the network, worked for wireless networks too and I found that someone across the road was using my wireless so I politely knocked on their door and told them they'd been caught and I had the logs to prove it.

 

Surely if they connect to your network the router will give them an IP address... A program to look for IPs that are not
a) your own
b) your routers
on your network would do the trick. Some of the earlier routers limited the number of concurrent connections making the scanning even easier.

 

What type of wireless network/router do you have? Does your router have filtering on a MAC address or any other security than WEP?
