Does it make a difference how you close a program?
Does it matter if you use the drop down and exit or use the X in the corner to close a program?

Just asking more out of curiosity than anything.

I think they both work equally the same, as long as the designer wrote the script right, both ways should lead to the same spot to close the program

Depending on how busy explorer is, it may make a difference. If there is a fairly long queue of explorer commands, it may be quicker to close the app from the taskbar. Otherwise, no.

As Eyeblazin was asking out of curiosity, here is the Terminate Process Black List. You'll notice there are big differences the way a program closes.
" If you were wondering why you seemed to lose memory; why you seemed to lose system resources; why your system started behaving badly, after a time; why you suddenly crashed out of nowhere - well, maybe you don't have to look any further any more - maybe it wasn't the operating system at fault after all."

No, in fact, I believe I am ignorant of the concepts necessary to make use of the information linked. What does this mean to the ordinary user? Will just running the "black listed" programs cause trouble? If so under what conditions? What should be done about it? Where do I learn more? (starting with the basics necessary for a noob)

Basic users don't have to worry about that, just close apps with the tools provided for (x in the corner, or alt+F4, or even with the central button of the mouse..). Only developpers really choose how processes and threads will be terminated in a way the system will agree or not, making it less stable.
