So I'm trying to get an old hard drive that is more than 500 gig converted for data storage. I thought I knew how to do it I cannot find the thread where I asked the question on this site. So I pulled up disk manager with the hard drive connected and then pulled up computer manager like so so I can see the drive just fine the problem is I wanna get rid of the system partition and expand the main partition which is only 100 Meg. I am using this USB drive enclosure from Amazon:

When I write click the new drive I get the following options, unfortunately they are all grayed out and I can't seem to do anything with them:

any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

Right click first partition - delete volume. Same for second. Whole drive is now unallocated so right click and create new volume.

I have tried both the system partition and the second one in the list which is the 100 megabit the list comes up as I show on the second picture but I cannot seem to click on it or when I click on it nothing happens. The first partition, the 529 megabit won't let me do anything to it either. I suspect it is because it is a system partition. If I could get my Linux up Linux doesn't care about windows formats

Don't click in the list, click the partitions below - the blue bar ones

I tried with no success I was able to delete the third partition but the first two partitions seem to be a no go here's the latest screenshot.

I did burn a new Linux live disc cinnamon 17. I have found Linux to be very useful dealing with balky files windows does not want to let me touch.

OK, this can happen in Win 10, but there are other ways. See how you get on with Method 1 HERE.

I downloaded and bought partition manager which was advertised on that site. Waiting for the unlock key which is slow in coming.

Well my chair is a wonderful van graaff generator. I seem to have blown every USB port on my computer. Fortunately my mouse and keyboard still work, not sure why. But until I get a different computer which is gonna take a little bit of saving life pretty well tapped myself out for Christmas. I am dead in the water.
