Running Windows Me and desperately in need of more RAM. Computer Properies Performance says 77% available. No wonder everything is so slow. Spyware shouldn't cause problems, as i use hav AdAware, Spybot S&D, CWshredder as well as my Zone Alarm Security Suite's spyware remover.

Now I am trying to get rid od 2 programs that I am not using anymore: Webwasher and Sygate personal firewall. Tried 'Ad/Remove Programs', as well as each particular program's uninstall wizards. The result is always the same: "Cannot find files or tools". How can I get rid of these programs?

    Thanks,

    Jellyjee

:) Howdy!! Just for information, I use a program that's called: Smart Uninstaller V1.0. You have to send an email to: cbotez@mail.dntis.ro and he will send the very latest version to you by email. It's free, no adware, no nags, you don't have to register. It is not installed on the hard drive, you simply put it in a folder, and run it from there. It's been successful for me uninstalling programs. Hope this will help. :)

The main problem is with ME itself. No matter how much RAM you stick into your computer, you will always be saddled with only 64k (yes that is kilobytes) of GDI resources. Whenever a program runs, it uses a little bit of that. There is no way to increase it. You really see it cause problems while surfing the net. Soon it tells you that you have to close something. Only one fix, go back to 98 (which is better because it doesn't use up so much in the first place) or upgrade to XP. XP has no limitations.

try installing them again then uninstalling them again right away.

Thank you so much for your advice, everybody! :)
I will now proceed to try out everything suggested here.

By the way, Archangel, not too long ago and with the exact same configuration as now, I used to have 90% free (using selective start up). Then something mysterious in the comp just started to grow fat and use up space. It bothers me a great deal that I can't find what the hell is causing this. So I started to get rid of as much as I could, but with very little result...:(

    Have a loverly day, everyone
    See you

JJ, I use Analog X MaxMem http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=307 with my W98SE. I have not used it with ME, so use it at your own risk.

When I bootup my laptop with all programs loading to access the net (Zone Alarm, Avast, Spybot tea timer, Planet Clock, Gadwin Print screen, Windows REsource meter, volume control), my 288mb Ram shows only 144mb free.
I run Maxmem once and memory goes to around 64% free.
Run it a second time straight away, and memory leaps to 89% free.
In other words I have gained approx 116mb of RAM freed up.
I then close Maxmem as it sometimes clashes with running programs as it runs automatically every 5 minutes or so, whether you want it to or not.

Check out Maxmem to see if it is suitable for ME. Otherwise search MG for "memory managers" www.majorgeeks.com , or google for "memory managers" and "ME".

Hope this helps, let us know. Bazza

WOW Bazza! That MaxMem certainly gave me a boost! Running with 90% free now! :) Thaks a lot!

Next I'm gonna try your suggestion, Mellow Man. That is a great idea!

    See you all later! :)

Most "uninstallers" are simply a shell. They search for and use the uninstaller program (if any) that comes with the program you are trying to un-install. If there is no uninstaller as part of the program you have installed, then the fancy uninstall shell program won't work. I use a program called My Uninstaller but it is only a shell. Your program may be different, but I doubt it, unless it sets up a before and after list of the stuff that alters when you install a program. Those type of programs are very slow to use, when installing any new program. Bazza
