Do you recognize the names of the regular .cpl files? Just find the one that doesn't belong to the bunch, and delete that.

But ya gotta do more than delete a single .cpl file if a nasty has gotcha. Update and run "the usual suspects" right away.

    These are OK

    desk.cpl (all are .cpl)
    intl
    QuickTime
    hdwwiz
    inetcpl
    joy
    main
    mmsys
    ncpa
    nusrmgr
    odbccp32
    powercfg
    sysdm
    telephon
    timedate
    jpicpl32
    appwiz
    access

You may not have all of these, and you may have another couple, but the nasty shd be easy to spot if you search for .cpl in Windows, with Advanced Options.

    Hi,
The title does not say it all, you did not even tell us what it is that you want to remove. No such thing as too much info, easy for there to be not enough :)

Tweak UI will allow you to "turn off" items in Control Panel wthout actually deleting anything, but it won't remove the nasty from your system... You can use Spybot S&D and Ad-aware for spyware removal.

Have you installed any audio or video codec packs? It's more likely you got the AC3 filter from something like that.

If its an Ac3 filter then its not spyware it's as said above something that is installed as part of a codec pack and that control panel icon is the route to the codecs menus.

BTW what file of app did you install from here which gave you this Control Panel Icon?

if its the one I think it is then this is the removal instructions....

    1. Goto Add/Remove and uninstall the codec pack or App you installed

    2. As Wisewiz said just find and delete the .cpl file from windows32 folder and below are the manual instruction for removing all of the files

    Find ac3filter.ax file.

Unregister this module from command line:
    >regsvr32 /u x:\some_dir\ac3filter.ax
( where x:\some_dir\ is the files location )

Find and delee files ac3filter.ax and ac3filter.cpl

    Delete registry key HKCU\Software\AC3Filter

Re: What is that you say???????

I left that one alone rather then get pissed and anger people needlessly. People should be very careful pointing fingers and more careful about what they install. Know what you installed, stop clicking so fast and read as the install goes through, typically it tells you where shortcuts will be placed :)

Same reason spyware\adware gets installed, click click click, what was that? Oh, who cares....... Probably a glitch.
