How to disable Norton Anti-Virus?

I have dl'd Avast anti-virus. Upon boot I get a screen saying Avast can't run some things because it has detected Norton Anti-Virus.

I have clicked on the NAV icon and turned off all the options shown on the screen. Yet, Autoupdate, or something, is apparently still running.

The Symantec Live Update file in Control Panel has no option for disabling it that i can see.

How do I turn NAV off so AVAST will work?

If you're running XP go to Start\Run type msconfig then press enter
go to the startup optioon tab and uncheck the Norton Live Update box if it's there and any other Norton AV stuff.

If this doesn't help try unistalling Norton, yo may have to go to the Symantec site to get info on how to clear Nortons off completely as it embeds itself deeply.

yes your going to have to uninstall NAV, you can't just disable it.

 

If you are going to uninstall NAV, please let me know as I have had much experience in uninstalling that program. I have NIS 2004 and had to uninstall it a few times before it finally worked (long story) and now it is fine. However, Norton embedds itself in so many ways that are not listed in the symantec pages, that it took me almost 2 hours before it was done.
