How to do clean install of XP

I have a Dell Latitude D610 originally running XP.
A Windows Vista upgrade was mistakenly loaded.
I would like to reinstall XP, but can only operate in Safe Mode.
How do I do a clean install from the CD?:cry

 

Hi, set your bios to boot from the cd. insert the xp cd in the disk drive. follow the instructions on the screen and when you get to the screen that says repair hit esc key or f8. follow the instructions to format the hard disk (NTSC). xp will reformat your hard disk and you will lose any data that is on the disk and the operating system will install. after the o/s is installed and the system is stable restart and go into bios and set the boot drive as your hard disk.

 

Thank you. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out the first step: how to set bios to boot from the cd. I can only start up the computer in safe mode and do not see this option.

 

if you hit the f12 key you should get a menu to choose to boot from the cd, and then you will be promted to hit any other key to boot from disk. When you see the list of partitions highlight each and delete them all. Then create a partition, and choose to install on that new partition. Setup will format it and install Windows.

If that doesn't work....After you boot into safe mode you can try clicking on start, run then type cmd and hit enter. In the dos prompt window type "format c:" ignore any warnings and answer yes to any prompts to continue. Once done you will have a formatted HD with no operating system that you can then install Windows on.
