How to download messages from free yahoo

Hi.
I want to close my long standing yahoo free email account. The site has just gotten too many bells and whistles that I can't get rid of. I have hundreds of messages there, and can't figure out how to download them. I tried forwarding to other accounts, but there seems no way to do that in bulk. Any help much appreciated. I have outlook express, and outlook 2003 on my computer.

I've already been down this road, and there's no faster (free) way than to just manually forward the messages.

I thought it was just me, and that I was overlooking something. So Yahoo is retaining us by holding our messages hostage. [I saw no small print warning of this when I signed up.] No wonder some want to regulate the internet. I am against regulation, but for a company the size of Yahoo to do this, what will the hungrier ones do?

Thanks, I think. This email account has all my mma messages in it and my macho needs it. The 'howtogeek.com' site made my brain explode. Am I correct that if I download thunderbird [firefox is my current default browser] I can just use it to download those messages without any conflicts, and then dispose of it easily should I choose? I am not knowledgeable about setting up mail ports, so on. Will the program do all that?:confused

This does not work with a normal installation of Thunderbird but the extension available from the link posted by foogoo apparently makes Thunderbird work with a free Yahoo! Mail account.

 

Right you have to use thunderbird, then install webmail extension.
Last option buy full pop access for a month, download all your mail and cancel it.
