is the fastest,as they seem to be different speeds,as I get a message "this device can work faster on another port" :confused

Look in the Device Manager under USB Controllers. Is a USB 2 or 2.0 Enhanced controller present? If not you don't have USB2.0 installed or present. If it is, you probably have an additional USB controller installed where one is 2.0 and the other is 1.0. You need to try them to see which is which.

Device manager may show an error, or that USB is supported, but it is not going to tell you which physical port on the computer/motherboard is the faster port. You need to determine your motherboard model and look up the specs. Then inspect the motherboard and compare it to the motherboard's "layout" illustration in your manual to see where the faster ports (if that board supports a newer and faster USB version) physically are mounted on the board. If present, they may appear in the back I/O panel area. If not physically mounted in the rear, there may be a USB "header" elsewhere on the board, and a cable is then used to extend that interface's header (set of pins) to the case's front panel USB ports. Many motherboards have several USB headers scattered about the board.

If your board is old, it may only support USB1.x speeds. In that case, you can buy a PCI to USB Adapter Card.

Note that USB3.0 is the newest and fastest USB standard. Like all USB standards, they are forwards and backwards compatible - though the end throughput will be determined by the oldest standard and therefore slowest device. Most of those adapters are USB2.0. USB3.0 adapter cards are still pretty pricey. Buying a USB2.0 card will save you money today, but you should consider buying USB3.0 now if you might be adding a new USB device (like external storage) to your system in the near future.

It appears to me that you may have a USB 2.0 PCI Controller installed but the onboard controller is 1.0

The faster USB ports would be the ones on the PCI Controller if it is 2.0.

    Thanx,
    I think I will go for the 3.0 ;)
