I updated my laptop on Nov 2. One of the optional updates I installed was a driver update, "Elan - Other hardware - ELAN Input Device". Apparently this was a mistake. I have two accounts - an "Administrator" account and a "Standard User" account. When I log into the standard user account, but not the administrator account, a dialog appears with the message "ElanTPCfg has stopped working". See the attached for the dialog details.
Why does this error occur? How can I fix? Or should I just ignore the error and forget it?

    Rollback the malfunctioning driver.
NEVER accept hardware/driver advice from MS.
Your ELAN touchpad driver should only be updated through ASUS.

Thank you for the advice!!!! I roll-backed the driver and the error disappeared.
Also thank you for the advice about NOT updating drivers from Windows Update.

I have a general question. When confronted with "optional" updates, which ones should I consider installing? Or should I ignore the optional updates?

    Thanks again.

I ignore optional updates and haven't had a problem - yet.
