I searched some of the other posts about problems with Windows Installer but could not get a fix. I looked in my task manager for msiexec.exe but it was not there so it couldn't be ended there. I downloaded Windows Installer Cleaner but could not load the program because it needs Windows Installer to load it. I get the message "Windows Installer could not be accessed ..." when I tried to load the program.

I tried Start - Run - cmd and then msiexec.exe /unregister and msiexec /regserver along with other things from microsoft but none worked.

I have been trying to uninstall my 2002-3 Office so I can reinstall because my Office Tools scanner is not working because of windows installer as well.

I have up to service pack 3 on the system.

It should be easier than this but I haven't been able to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

OK - so you have Windows XP? First, download and unzip Dial-A-Fix, run it, then check the "Windows Installer" section. Reboot when it's done. If that doesn't work, try downloading and installing the latest MS Installer from this link (the XP version is the last one listed). If that doesn't work, click Start > Run, type services.msc and press Enter. Scroll down to "Windows Installer". On the PC I'm using right now, this service is set to "Manual"; right click and select Properties to make changes. If none of these things work, you can try the System File Checker, System Restore, or a repair install from the XP install CD....

Thank you for your help. I got the windows installer to work--kind of. I end up having to open the services.msc to start the installer sometimes. Does your start parameters have anything in it. Mine is blank.

What started all my problems is my Microsoft Office tools scanner kept coming up with the error message "An internal error has occurred. I this error persists reinstall this application.

I reinstalled/uninstalled my Microsoft Office XP 2002 twice and still get this message. I got the scanner working with the software that it came with but the Office Tools scanner program is much easier to work with. It should be part of the Microsoft Office program that I tried installing. I have the original discs for Office so it's confusing why the office tools scanner part will not work. Any ideas would be helpful.
