    Outlook Express....

We have used Windows XP for years and recently the hard drive went bad. (PC had been dropped; but was working well for over a month after that.) David did a re-install of Windows XP disk and lost all our files/programs. Took it to repairman and he has not (for over a week) been able to recover our lost files/programs. He put in a "used" hard drive which is terrible; yet we've been able to at least load and play our two favorite online games (RuneScape and Armies of Gielinor) and use Outlook Express. Then David took off the MSM messanger and now we cannot load either game and Outlook Express will load but will not send/receive. We need help please.

We think the Windows XP disk was simply too old and needs updating, as does the Internet Explorer & Outlook Express. (We cannot even load Microsoft Word anymore.) Can anyone tell us how to update our Windows XP, Internet Explorer & Outlook Express?

    Thank you.

    Hi

In this thread HERE (8 mins apart in posting) you state you cannot play Runescape?

I do hope you are not wasting our precious time in helping you diagnose these issues?

I think you need to take it back to your repairman (hope you never paid him) and have them fix this as they put in the "used" HDD!

Thank you David. Noway would I waste anyone's time in these forums. I value you all to much.

As mentioned in this initial post, we were able to pull up the games & even play for less than 5 minutes before the screen would turn completely white and the PC freeze. Then as, also, mentioned here, David took off the msg and that ruined that! (My other post was more about the hard drive; whereas this one was hoping to get information as to how to get XP updated, IE back and Outlook Express back, none of which we have been able to do.

Yes, David used the "Windows Update"; still was not able to get this ... guessing it is 10 yrs old now ... Windows XP back to where it was (with all the updates) prior to our losing the files. We are both so ignorant about computers that our attempts have apparently caused more problems and repairs. :(

How did he "take off" that messenger; uninstall, or just delete?

He went thru the control panel > add/remove programs (on left side was link to add/remove) which brought up a window with boxes (some checked; some unchecked). He unchecked everything except the MSM. This winded up deleting everything that was not checked....duh! Live and learn!

David managed to update our Windows XP "home edition" to XP-3 and updated IE to edition 8. So far all is working except Outlook Express though everything is extremely laggy.

Another question: Do you "update/upgrade" a graphics card or get a new one that is better?

There is no way to upgrade a graphics card. You could see if there is a newer driver.
How much RAM is in the computer? Right-click My Computer and Select Properties. One of the last lines will tell you the speed of the computer and the RAM.
