Get a boot floppy for Win 98 from the bootdisk site.
    http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
Take any of the Win 98 disk files. They're all good and they all work well.
Make a floppy from the downloaded file by opening the .exe file with a blank floppy in the 3.5 drive.
Now put the floppy in the floppy drive of the machine you want to fomat and start that machine again.
When the machine boots to the floppy and gives you a choice between with- and without-CD support, without is good.
Now when you get the A:> prompt, type "FORMAT C:" and you're off and running.

If there's more than one partition, come on back and we'll help.

Google "format hard drive" (without the quotes) if you want a million pages of instructions that say what I just said.

Know anyone with Partition Magic? Could try our drive utilities section for a tool that lets you format from the demo, not sure if any do though :(

Ranish is free, you can try that:

Optionally, your HD manufacturer should have a downloadable floppy tool that might let you format as well. Your drive should have came with one if you bought it.

never mind i found a way that works. Instead of typing format c: you type FDISK and then you follow the instructions and eventually it asks you if you want to format your drive. Pretty cool but everything is cool now

    Me, too. Congratulations, Criminal!
We'll try to remember that you can get to FORMAT through FDISK.

Sorry about the bum steer above (from me, I mean).
