How to get out of safe mode

I have Windows ME. I used Dban utility to erase & clean the hard drive. I wanted to install a different operating system. That did not work out so I reinstalled the original manufacture's restore disk. It reinstalled fine but now it is in safe mode where I can't get out. I tried all suggestions from the help menu, nothing worked. I even tried rebooting with a clean environment
    with no sucess.
Obviously, some file was defected when I ran the Dban utility. Does anyone know how I can get higher colors. The display setting only has 16 colors in the drop down menu and can't be changed.

Thanks in advance for all responses.

    Hi

Try clicking Start > Run and typing msconfig and hitting enter then click the General tab and choose Normal Startup and click Apply and restart and see if that helps.

As for the Graphic issue, you will need to check the Display settings are correct or re-install the correct graphics driver for your PC.

Can you tell us the make and model version of your PC? eg DELL, HP, Compaq info should be on the PC somewhere as some of the tools we may use to get logs dont work with WinME these days.

THANK YOU!!! That was quick and fast. I got out of safe mode by re-installing the graphics driver. I don't know why I didn't think of that but then again, I'm not a professional like you most obviously are.

    Thanks again.

You did such a good job of getting my Windows ME running again. I hope you can help me with another computer that's giving me a problem. I have a IBM Aptiva running Windows 95 upgraded to 98. It ran but with problems. Trying to resolve the problems I tried to restore with the Manufacturers restore disk
and got an error message "Invalid drive specifications". Formatting the hard drive made it worse. Now all I get is a Dos prompt on start-up. The Dban erase disk was not compatable.

Is there any hope for this old monster?

    Hi RED :)

With what you have mentioned and sadly not being in front of the PC in question, I would go with the BIOS needs updating as a start.

I guess that would be out of my league. I don't know how to change the BIOS especially from a Dos prompt.

    Thanks anyway
