    |MG| VLC
has a control panel built in that will increase output *apparently* beyond what the PC natively produces in a given video. See below:

Thank you for replies especially to cipher for putting together an image with the detailed explanation. My apologies for not describing the issue precisely. I need to edit .mov file on Windows 7 in order to make volume louder. Then, this file must play on iPad. So far, I have tried the following:
    1. Convert .mov to .avi Standard ISO MPEG-4 using aTube Catcher.
    2. Increase the volume in .avi file using VirtualDub.
    3. Since .avi file in step 1 turned out to be 90 degrees flipped, I flip .avi back using Free Video Flip And Rotate.

It is my understanding that iPad can play .avi MPEG-4. However, when my uncle tried playing on iPad the .avi file that I created by following steps 1 through 3, he saw a blank screen and message, "Codec is needed to play the file". At this point, I can think of 2 options:
    1. Find and install the codec on iPad OR
    2. Convert .avi with amplified sound back to .mov.
I have done #2 and am waiting on my uncle to test it. Any further suggestions are appreciated. :)

In this case, there are two type of solutions to choose from.

Install a player app on your iPad that can play .avi MPEG-4 like HD Player (free).

Or you need to convert the avi files to a iPad friendly format like mp4 or m4v (h.264, mpeg-4). Please note that .avi (mpeg-4 codec) is not a iPad supported video format, only Motion JPEG (M-JPEG), audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format is available for iPad.

Handbrake (free) is usually the first choice for easy video processing, and it has presets to convert videos for iPad.
If that doesn't get you what you want then you can try AppGeeker AVI MP4 Mac Converter.
These are all easy to use.

Sorry for the delayed response and thank you for suggestions. The video opened on iPad after conversion from .avi back to .mov using aTubeCatcher
