Can someone please tell me how to install an operating system when you already have one. For instance if you have xp installed, and you just want to reinstall it or start from scratch, Or say if you have windows 98 and want to upgrade to xp. What do you have to do to do this?

Would I do the same steps that are in them guides if I were going from windows ME to windows xp?

    HI

Yes the 2nd link is for Win98/ME but just be careful at the BIOS upgrade part as its not always advisable to upgrade your BIOS, upgrading depends on if you really need to to run XPs setup.

Whoa! Where did you get those requirements? I've been running Win XP with 512MB for years now. The Microsoft reference you posted only states 233 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor and 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM. Now, we know those specs would yield hideous performance but there's a lot of room between those specs and what you posted.

Agreed man! My first modern PC was a 1GHz Tualatin Celeron with 256MB and worked great for me ATT, OK, I didn't run much ATT but it was a decent speed to work with some 7 years ago. My girlfriend bought a Dell laptop some 4 years ago with a 1.5GHz and 128MB RAM! Now that sucker is slow!:eek She wouldn't listen when I told her to get at least 256MB. Either she doesn't care about the 3 min. boot or slowness of some apps. or is just too hard headed to admit it!:-D

    EDIT: Oops, I'm OT again.:-o

I wildly guessed (ok knowing how things have changed and feedback from others) at them, while the min specs will run XP ok, at least with 1gb ram XP will be extra happy as with Vista 2gb it will be happy, but less than those specs the OS will run fine, maybe not peek but fine, can also imagine you have tweaked your to perfection knowing your skill level.

If you go via MSFT min specs you know you are likely not going to have a great computing experience, do I posted what I would consider personal mins and knowing I would be dammed if I do or dammed I I don't post what's accepted as norm I went with those :)
