Trying to install Ubuntu 8.1 on a blank formatted hard drive.
    Installation seemed OK.
Powered off machine so that I could move to permanent location.Upon rebooting, had to go through the installation AGAIN.
I thought once something was installed, it was there. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
Did you take out LiveCD? Did you change the boot sequence of your machine?

    Thank you.

The default is a LiveCD install so when you install it it's only live in RAM but you should have an install icon for a permanent install. Do you have options at the very start? I don't know this particular release but all the other Ubuntu's work this way. They even ask you to remove the CD before reboot.

OneEye must have had the good one shut.
Shouldn't say anything. I've done the same a few times.
