I own a Dell XPS 420 desktop with Windows Vista 32. I began experiencing issues with my pixels scrambling and blue screens and "shut downs" shortly after an automatic ATI/AMD update. I was advised to run ComboFix on the computer which I did. The ComboFix process was initiated, but during the process the computer shut down in the middle of it. When I rebooted the computer, I had a black screen with a white cursor. I tried to boot into Safe Mode, but the same thing happened again. I hit the F8 and went into system repair. That did not repair the problem. I ran the diagnostics and it showed a hardware failure - the graphics card. I purchased another card, but I don't have access to my cd/dvd drive either. I received a spindle error on it. I need a way to convert the installation cd into a flash drive file.

    I have tried the following:

Purchased Windows Vista 32 Repair disk and converted to iso file
Purchased the Windows Vista Image disk and converted to iso file
I attempted to execute several malware and anti-virus and driver and dll downloads, but I am missing most of the dll files needed to execute.
The repair disk appeared to have resolved the problem, but when it completed it started looping back and forth from shut down to initiating Windows startup.

I don't want to lose my files on my computer. I have tons of info in it. I had a similar problem years ago and a very smart computer guy gave me very detailed instructions which solved my problem. I remember I had to take the battery out for a few minutes and then I went into F10 or F4 and changed something to do with the boot options. I also had to hit the windows key and something else. I would give anything to have saved the instructions. They were priceless.

I believe if I can load the graphics for the game card that most of my problem will be solved. The diagnostic lights on the computer show a hardware failure.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Goldenskull I can't follow the rules

If you can use like a library computer or a friends and get a flash drive stick you can copy the Driver from the manufacturer's web site.

This is what i do with most of my programs that i use i save programs and files on a 32 gig stick.

And we do not understand what you mean by It shut everything down. You have too give a little more of a hint there.

I agree. Shut everything down didn't make sense. On top of that, I don't know what happened to my brain. After I replied, I thought "how stupid?" He is telling me to download the drivers on a flash drive from another computer.

What I meant by shut everything down is that the only thing I can do on the computer is go to the F8 option. I can no longer access the internet, my email, my files, etc. It is extremely aggravating. I am by no means a computer whiz. Everything I have learned is through manuals, help screens and the help of others with computer knowledge.

Thanks for the help. You don't know how much I appreciate it.
