How to make an .iso image boot?

I'm trying to make a suse live dvd boot, I downloaded the .iso and I tried to use nero to burn it but instead of booting the files that the os needs to boot I get a ms-dos promt. I just want to be able to boot off the dvd-rom and have it load automatically without having to type anything.
I downloaded the knoppoix .iso image and it booted fine after I burned it to a disk, but I'm having probs w/ this one.Is there an easy program that I can download that creates .iso images and burns them?
