How To Make Best Use Of Screen

I am sure that this is an elementary question, but I can't seem to find the answer.
I'd like to use as big a text font as possible. Running on IE11 (Firefox uses still smaller fonts with associated problems)
I should say that I got out of hospital yesterday and my eyesight has got worse, so I now I have difficulty seeing my external monitor (connected via HDMI) text defaults (monitor res 1920 x 1080, size 21." diagonal, viewing distance about 50cm, computer res override to 1366 x 768, scale set to 125 percent) no longer work for me..
I need larger fonts to help me write my next elementary question. I do not the default to happen when, in eg MajorGeeks, on increasing mag. screen narrows. What I want is the dark green 'empty' background field to left and right of the light yellow display to be usefully used !!
I should add that the TNR font I and using I find aesthetically pleasing to my eye.

Please can someon3e tell me how to make best use of my screen area ?

Firefox will default to what you select. Or if you don't want to go into Options, simply hold down the ctrl key and press + . Each press of + increases the text size.

Press + 7 or 8 times and the dark green sides are gone.
